Javis Leads Savannah State Past Wildcats

DAYTONA BEACH, Fl- Brandon Javis missed out on hitting for the cycle but he did lead Savannah State to a 9-6 win over Bethune-Cookman at Jackie Robinson Park.
Javis hit two singles, a double and a home run as he ended the evening going 4-for-5 with three runs scored and three RBI.
Javis hit a RBI double in the first inning that brought home Santos Adames who reached on a fielder's choice. Javis scored on Brett Pointer's ground rule double for a 2-0 lead.
B-CU tied the game in the bottom of the inning and went ahead 3-2 in the bottom of the third.
Alfred Arnold hot a double for SSU in the fifth and later scored when Adames hit a single to left field to tie the game at three. The Tigers made two errors in the bottom of the inning which allowed B-CU to take a 4-3 lead.
The Tigers tied the game in the top of the sixth on Arnold's RBI single.
In the seventh, Adames led off with a walk and Javis hot a single. Pointer struck out swinging but reached on a error by the catcher which also allowed Adames to score. Glen Wormley entered the game to pinch hit for David Washington and reached on a fielder's choice. Javis scored on a sacrifice fly by Andrew Mendez and the Tigers found themselves up 6-4.
Cookman scored in the bottom of the seventh but SSU added three runs in the top of the eighth as Adames hit a RBI single and Javis blasted a two-run home run over the left filed fence.
The Wildcats (15-10) had the bases loaded in the eighth but could only score once. In the ninth, B-CU had two runners on base but came up empty.
SSU (16-9) had 12 hits off five Wildcat pitchers. Adames scored three times and had two RBI.
Robert Ramsdale pitched 7.1 innings for the Tigers to get the win. Ramsdale struck out four batters. Chris Chupp earned the save by pitching 1.2 innings.
