Brown, Spencer Lead Bulldogs Past Savannah State

HUNTSVILLE, AL- Jerome Brown had four hits while Marcus Spencer drove in three runs to lead Alabama A&M past Savannah State 12-10 at Bulldog Field.

The victory gives A&M a 3-18 record while the Tigers fell to 14-7.

The Bulldogs scored four times in the bottom of the first but SSU cut the lead in half with a two-run home run by Alfred Arnold in the top of the second.

A&M went ahead 5-2 in the third but Savannah State scored once in the fourth and once in the fifth to trail by only one run. SSU left the bases loaded in the fifth.

Alabama A&M left three runners stranded in the bottom of the sixth but not before they scored five runs on three hits to expand their lead to 10-4.

The Bulldogs left the bases loaded in the seventh as they had two runners cross home plate.

Kyle Wilkerson drove in two runs for SSU with a double in the eighth to cut the Tigers deficit to 12-6.

In the ninth, Brandon Javis led off with a single for the Tigers. Brett Pointer popped out but Davis Washington followed with a walk. After A&M swapped pitchers, Andrew Mendez belted a double which scored Javis. Arnold grounded out but the next batter, Brain Johnson, singled which scored Mendez. Matt Nowacki doubled in a run but Wilkerson flied out for the final out of the contest which left the Tigers on the short end of a 12-10 decision.

The teams combined for 28 hits, which SSU had 15. A&M stranded 10 runners while the Tigers left nine on base.

Jarrel Arnold took the loss for the Tigers. Arnold pitched 5.1 innings and gave up six runs while striking out four batters.

Washington, Mendez and Johnson all scored twice for SSU while Alfred Arnold had three RBI and Wilkerson drove home two.
